Cultural life in my town

Culture has always been there to entertain and educate us. It’s quite natural for human to search for it; after all that is what make us different from animals.

There are all kinds of art to be seen in my town, for example the cinematography. There are 3 cinemas in Pardubice: Cine Star in shopping center Grand, Cinema City in Afi palác and Kino Dukla, which mainly serves to schools and public lectures in present. It’s obvious that people prefer going to the cinema to the theater, they like new things, the special effects, maybe the loud music and all kinds of noises like gunshot, helicopter etc. You can see and hear some of them in theater too (note: in Pardubice you will always here an ambulance, which is passing the theater by every play :D), but it’s never so impressive. What’s more, to see the play is usually more expensive than to see the film, the offer of movies is broader and you don’t have to dress up. So I can understand why people chose cinemas over theaters. But I also have to admire the actors in plays, it must be really hard to remember all of their lines and unlike in a movie, they can’t do mistake or forget, because there is no “cut” and “action” on the scene, there’s only the action and the audience watching you. Anyway, if you decide to go to the theatre, the most important one in Pardubice is the Eastern Bohemia Theatre (Theatre 29?). During the summer you can go to the summer cinema, which is placed in Tyršovy sady, you can sit on a low long bench or you can bring your own blanket and lay down on it in the grass. It can be pleasantly spent night if it doesn’t rain. The theater recently moved its scene to Kunětická hora, so you can see your favorite play under the stars with beautiful castle at the background.

There are a lot of places where can be placed an art exposition but little of large art galleries. I can recall only The House at Jonáš on Pernštýnské square. Then there are some spaces at the castle, the library, the University of Pardubice or Club 29.

Music in Pardubice is more successful. It has its own conservatoire, chamber philharmonic orchestra and two primary art schools. When you go to the concert, it’s usually in the House of Music. Pop concerts are mostly placed in Čez arena or in local pubs if the band or singer isn’t well-known. There are also some music festivals like the Mirror of the Art, The Pardubice Spring Festival or Majáles.

If you like dancing, especially discos, you should visit some local clubs. We count amongst the most popular Hobé near the railway station, Gimlet in the center or Klec, which is in Polabiny.

People come to Pardubice mostly because of sport. There are sport competitions like a famous horse race called the Great Pardubice-Steeplechase, motorcycle speedway race - the Golden Helmet and a young tennis player’s tournament called Pardubická juniorka. For all of the inhabitants the town organize at least once a year a tour across Pardubice on roller-skates, this action is called Pardubice na bruslích. Our ice hockey team is quite successful in the Czech National Hockey League, there is always a traffic jam, when the match is played at our place.

Pozn.: theater = amrická X theatre = britská

So, something on that note: I like theater so much (oh, and thanks for that thing with British and American English, I never knew it, shame on my that I didn't understand abbrevations of my translator -.- :D) and when it's not stupid play for schools, I like it better than cinema :) But it's pity that I go to theater just like once per year...
    Sorry for my English :D
